Arsenal’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, commended Arda Güler after the midfielder finally made his first appearance for Real Madrid in their 3-1 victory in the Copa del Rey against Arandina, emphasizing that the 18-year-old “possesses all the necessary attributes to represent Real Madrid.”
Güler joined Madrid from Fenerbahce in July 2023 but encountered a knee injury that required surgery during the preseason, followed by two muscle injuries as he aimed to regain full fitness.

The Turkish national played and featured for 59 minutes in Madrid’s triumph in the round-of-32 match on Saturday, with Joselu, Brahim Díaz, and Rodrygo securing the goals.
“Physically, he is not at his peak, but he showcased his talent,” Ancelotti expressed in his post-match press conference. “It was significant for him to commence playing with the squad.
“We need to be patient with him. He exhibited his talent in the first half. The crucial thing is that he has returned, albeit he needs to enhance his physical condition and intensity.”
Güler’s resilience was evident in the first half when Madrid was awarded a free kick outside the Arandina box, and the teenager insisted on taking it ahead of the more seasoned Dani Ceballos, hitting the post.
“Yes, he possesses personality and character,” Ancelotti affirmed. “That is commendable. He stands out with his talent, but character is a vital quality to excel at Real Madrid.”
Güler had previously been an unused substitute in three Madrid games, including their 1-0 LaLiga triumph over Mallorca earlier this week.
“Before the game, I advised him to savor the moment above all,” goal scorer Joselu said. “He has been absent for an extended period. It is his first appearance with us and not an easy task. However, he is a young individual whom we are nurturing, endowed with abundant talent. We need to capitalize on his abilities.”
Madrid will now prepare to travel to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Supercopa, with their semifinal against Atletico Madrid scheduled to take place in Riyadh on Wednesday.
“I am uncertain if we are the favorites,” Ancelotti commented. “It is a short competition, so we are on the verge of clinching it, but it is also a brief contest for Atletico, Barcelona, and Osasuna.”
Ancelotti mentioned that Madrid’s injury situation was improving, with even long-term absentees Thibaut Courtois and Éder Militão — both of whom sustained ACL tears in August — progressing towards recuperation.
“Courtois engaged in some training this morning,” Ancelotti mentioned. “He will undergo moderate sessions on the field. His rehabilitation is progressing well, and Militão’s as well, but we are not rushing.”
