Ailing MCL suspected for Steelers LB T.J. Watt following triumph over Ravens

There wasn’t an update or confirmation from head coach Mike Tomlin on the severity of Watt’s injury post-game.

“T.J. is undergoing assessment for a knee injury,” Tomlin informed the press. “I will likely have more details the next time we assemble. Clearly disappointed, but obstacles in football and life are inevitable. Whatever it may be, we’ll handle it.”

Pittsburgh (10-7) will clinch a wild-card spot if the Jaguars or Bills are defeated on Sunday or if the Titans-Colts match on Saturday concludes in a draw.

If the Steelers progress, it will largely be due to Watt’s exceptional performance, as evident in Saturday’s game against the Ravens where he secured two sacks before his knee injury.

Watt will cap off the 2023 regular season with 19 sacks, presently leading the league and potentially notching his third career sack title if the statistics hold true.

The last time he was absent due to injury, a seven-game period during the 2022 season, Pittsburgh struggled with a 1-6 record.

Following a significant win but possibly an equally impactful setback, the Steelers will now have to wait for the outcomes of the rest of Week 18 and Watt’s evaluation.
