The scheduled match between Maryland women’s basketball (10-4) and Purdue (9-5) was postponed because of water seepage from the XFINITY Center roof caused by heavy rainfall in the vicinity. Consequently, the two teams had to reschedule the game for a later, undetermined date.
“The game set for today has been postponed and will be rearranged for a later time,” the organization conveyed 45 minutes after the anticipated 4:30 p.m. kick-off time. “All tickets will be reimbursed or can be exchanged for another game.”
Initially, the game was delayed for 15 minutes while the venue staff tried to resolve the issue. Despite their efforts, the problem persisted, leading to the teams leaving the court after a protracted hiatus. Subsequently, the postponement was formally announced.
Terps head coach Brenda Frese expressed disappointment to the audience, stating, “We hope that you’ll return to show your support for this team.”
Damon Evans, the athletic director for Maryland, stated on Big Ten Network that he is exploring the possibility of rescheduling the game for next week due to an available slot in the schedule. The only event scheduled to take place on the main court at XFINITY Center next week is a gymnastics meet on Friday, January 12th.
The Terps’ next planned game is against Michigan State on Tuesday, January 9th.
