Tips for engaging in Palworld multiplayer with companions

Palworld, the Pokémon-like survival crafting game, contains a multiplayer element, albeit somewhat temperamental. Player vs. Player is absent, and while you have the ability to cooperate with your friends to construct larger bases and conquer adversaries, some aspects of advancement remain an individual endeavor.

However, games are more enjoyable with more participants. Below, we provide a breakdown of the multiplayer feature and crossplay functionality in Palworld.

How to participate in multiplayer mode in Palworld

You can either serve as the host or join your friends in a personal saved game (up to four players), or join a dedicated server (up to 32 players). To join a personal save file, simply enter the authorization code, obtainable by the host player from their settings.

In case the authorization code does not appear, the host may need to activate the multiplayer option in the world settings. Each time a new session is initiated, you will need to send the authorization code to your friends, as it will vary for each session.

For participation in a dedicated server, you can select from the public servers of Palworld, set up your own server, or opt for a hosting service. (I typically prefer the last option, as it’s the most convenient method.)

Currently, dedicated servers are solely accessible via Steam, hence if you wish to engage in sessions with more than four players, you must utilize Steam.

How does multiplayer function in Palworld?

The multiplayer mode operates differently from the standard gameplay. Here are some notable variations:

  • You can collaborate as a group to conquer tower bosses, such as Zoe and Grizzbolt.
  • Guilds serve as parties and only members of your guild can participate in base construction with you. Should your friends wish to establish distinct bases, they will need to form their own guild.
  • Upon demise, you will relinquish all your Pals in addition to your equipment.
  • Exploration of the game world is an individual endeavor. Players must individually unveil the map and unlock fast travel points.
  • Loot is specific to the world rather than the player. If you recover a chest or a shining Pal Sphere from the ground, your comrades cannot obtain it.

It’s also essential to note that our dedicated server encountered peculiar issues that were not apparent during solo play, though it is uncertain whether these stem from multiplayer or server issues. These issues include the inability to ascend cliffs without falling (requiring a gradual climb) and miscounting of items during construction. Palworld is in early access, so the presence of such hurdles is not entirely surprising.

Is there crossplay multiplayer in Palworld?

No. Crossplay between the Xbox and Steam versions is not supported. Furthermore, the version accessible via Xbox Game Pass on PC is also not compatible for crossplay with the Steam version of the game.

If you wish to engage in play with friends, all participants must procure the game on either Steam or Xbox.

According to a FAQ provided by Pocketpair, they are striving to make this a viable option at the earliest opportunity, so stay tuned.

Will Palworld be available on PS5?

According to the aforementioned FAQ, developer Pocketpair has no immediate intentions for a PlayStation 5 release, but will contemplate it during the development phase.

For those commencing their journey in Palworld, we have various guides available, such as a beginner’s guide and type chart. Additionally, if you are prepared to confront the initial tower boss, we have a guide for that as well.
