Selena Gomez, David Henrie returning for “Wizards of Waverly Place” reboot

Fans of “Wizards of Waverly Place” can celebrate: the enchanting sibling pair Alex and Justin Russo are returning to television in the premiere of the show’s new sequel, “Wizards.”

Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who portrayed Alex and Justin in the original series that premiered in 2007, will be serving as executive producers of the premiere. Disney Branded Television confirmed to CBS News.

Gomez is slated to make a guest appearance in the premiere while Henrie will have a recurring role as Justin. The cast will also feature new faces in Waverly Place, such as Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.

The magical sequel follows the tale of Justin, who departs from his position at WizTech and bids farewell to his magical abilities to lead a normal life with his family — until a potent young sorcerer arrives at his doorstep seeking guidance, as stated in the press release. “Justin must accept his past to safeguard the future of the Wizard World.”

The opening episode is scripted by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, the masterminds behind the revival of “That’s So Raven.”

On her Instagram story, Gomez shared a nostalgic photo of herself with Henrie on the set of “Wizards of Waverly Place” with the caption, “We’re back.” She also expressed being “thrilled” with a snapshot of Deadline’s report, along with an image of what seems to be the “Wizards” premiere script with the caption, “Home again.”

Disney Channel and Henrie also dropped hints about the news, sharing the cover of the premiere script alongside a wand on Instagram.

“The Russos are thrilled to become a part of your family, but we’ve evolved,” Henrie wrote in the caption of his post. “2024, the year magic returns.”
