Keeping track of your furry companions inside and outside the house can be challenging — but a new pet door might simplify the task.

Tech startup Pawport has introduced a motorized pet door that allows your pet to come and go freely — while keeping other animals out. It comes with a collar tag that activates the door when your pet is nearby. Additionally, it includes customizable guardrails.

The product, which can be directly attached to existing pet door frames, can be temporarily locked for specific pets or scheduled for “curfews” using the Pawport app or through remote control using compatible virtual assistants like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant.

Pawport’s pet door and app are currently open for pre-order and are expected to enter homes during the second quarter of 2024.

Lockly, a technology firm specializing in intelligent locks, is unveiling a new lock equipped with facial recognition technology that enables users to open doors without any keys. The new intelligent lock, named “Visage,” will be released this summer. In addition to facial recognition, this lock will feature a biometric fingerprint sensor and a secure digital keypad for alternative entry methods — resembling past Lockly products. Visage is also compatible with Apple HomeKey and Apple Home.

Next to a television screen projecting her AI clone, Los Angeles-based content creator McKenzi Brooke informed AP that her digital twin will enable her to interact around the clock with her followers across various social media platforms–and generate revenue from it.

“It’s not a 9-to-5 job. It’s a 24-hour job. There’s no break,” she said, pointing out that she posts over 100 times a day on Snapchat alone, a photo-sharing social media platform. “Now I have my AI twin who is able to converse with my audience, speaking in my manner.”

Sony Honda Mobility made a return to CES this year with updates to its Afeela EV. While the car itself may not be any closer to transitioning from concept to reality, Sony added a playful touch: they drove it onto the stage using a PlayStation controller.

President of Sony Honda Mobility Izumi Kawanishi quickly clarified that Afeela owners will likely not be driving cars using controllers in the future.

Hyundai showcased its future plans for harnessing hydrogen energy on Monday. Beyond hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles, the South Korean automaker highlighted the potential for further involvement in energy production, storage and transportation — as Hyundai endeavors to contribute to “the establishment of a hydrogen society.” Company executives assert that this sets them apart from other automakers.

“We are presenting a method to convert organic waste and even plastic into clean hydrogen. This is unprecedented,” stated José Muñoz, president and global Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Company, during a Monday press conference at CES 2024.

Hyundai also disclosed plans to categorize vehicles based on their software offerings and new AI technology. With the introduction of so-called “software-defined vehicles,” consumers may have the opportunity to pay for features on demand — such as advanced driver assistance or autonomous driving — in the future. Hyundai also aims to integrate its own extensive language model into its navigation system.

Samsung has declared a collaboration with Hyundai to develop “home-to-car” and “car-to-home” services for all Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

This means people will be able to utilize Samsung’s SmartThings service to regulate their car’s interior temperature or open its windows. Conversely, when inside the car, individuals will be able to control their home’s lighting and interact with any connected smart devices.

Samsung also announced a partnership with Microsoft to expand Copilot AI functions on their flagship Galaxy smartphones.

Consumer robotics firm Ogmen showcased its new ORo pet companion at CES 2024, an autonomous robot designed to aid in pet care by providing food, dispensing medication and engaging with your dog using a built-in ball launcher.

Electronics giants LG and Samsung introduced transparent TVs at the show, with LG announcing that its OLED-powered display will be available for purchase later this year.

Almost imperceptible when turned off, LG’s 77-inch transparent OLED screen can seamlessly switch between transparent mode and full display mode, offering a novel viewing experience.and a more conventional black background for regular TV mode.

“The outstanding feature of OLED is it’s an organic material that we can print on any sort of surface,” stated David Park of LG’s Home Entertainment Division.

“So, what we’ve achieved is printed it on a see-through piece of glass, and then to attain the OLED picture quality, that’s where we have that contrasting film that moves up and down.”

Content is transmitted wirelessly to the display using LG’s Zero Connect Box which sends 4K images and sound.

Why would you require a translucent TV?

During periods when it is not being watched as a traditional TV, the OLED T can be utilized as a digital canvas for exhibiting artworks, for example.

General Mills, Del Monte Foods, and Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream are among the companies who will promote on the carts during an upcoming trial at West Coast stores owned by Good Food Holdings.

Instacart mentions a screen might publicize deals or present a limited-edition treat, like Chocolate Strawberry Cheerios. It might also provide real-time recommendations based on what customers place in the cart, such as advertising ice cream if a customer purchases cones.

Instacart entered the cart industry in 2021 by acquiring Caper, which develops smart carts with cameras and sensors that automatically track items placed in them. Instacart says it anticipates having thousands of Caper Carts deployed by the end of this year.
